Frequently Asked Questions

What are organic products that can be used on the skin?

Organic skincare products do not contain synthetic chemicals like parabens, phthalates, mineral oils, petroleum jelly or petrolatum.

Organic skincare products are also free of artificial colours, fragrances, preservatives, emulsifiers, GMOs, petrochemicals, animal testing (except cosmetics tested on animals), pesticides, hormones, antibiotics, heavy metals, and other contaminants.

They are also formulated to help maintain healthy skin, prevent premature aging, promote healing after injury, and support overall well-being.

These are some of the terms that you will see when you shop for organic products

  • Paraben Free - these are a group of chemicals used to keep certain cosmetic products stable, but they can be toxic if consumed in large quantities.
  • Fragrance-Free: The product is free of essential oils or fragrances.
  • Cruelty free - No animals were endangered during the manufacturing process.
  • Natural Ingredients - the ingredient is naturally derived from the plant or animal.
  • Vegan/Vegetarian – The ingredients can either be vegetarian or vegan.
  • Gluten-Free means that the formulation was free of gluten.
  • Non-Toxic: The product does not contain toxic substances, carcinogens or any other harmful compounds that could cause harm to your health.
  • Biodegradable: The product will be discarded as harmless components.
  • Pesticide-Free – No pesticides were used in the growing or harvesting of crops.
  • GMO-Free - this means that none of the ingredients in the product contains genetically modified organisms.
  • Certified Organic refers to ingredients that were grown using methods that protect soil, water, air, wildlife and farmers.

What is organic?

Organic meat means real food, grown without artificial fertilizers or pesticides. It also means the animals were not fed any genetically modified foods. It is safe to eat because it doesn't contain any harmful chemicals.

Organic meats are good for the environment. When we eat organic foods, we reduce the pollution in landfills, rivers, lakes, etc. We can also help wildlife by eating organic foods. Organic farmers do not often use toxic chemicals that can kill birds or insects.

It is best to buy organic meats locally as much as possible. Buying local helps keep more money circulating within the community rather than going out of state. Local businesses often pass on savings to customers shopping locally. Buy local to save jobs and not send them overseas.

What are organic fruits?

Organic food does not contain pesticides or synthetic fertilizers. They contain more nutrients such vitamins A, C. E, and, in some cases, omega-3 oils. These healthy ingredients make organic food better for our bodies and the planet.

Organic foods are made using sustainable agricultural practices, which protect soil quality and promote biodiversity. They are free of toxic chemicals, irradiation and sewage effluent.

While most consumers associate organics with produce, many organic products include dairy, meat, poultry, eggs, baked goods, personal care items, pet food, and household cleaning supplies.

The USDA defines organic as crops grown in accordance with strict federal regulations. Farmers cannot use conventional (non-organic) methods to grow these foods. However, they can use approved natural methods to control pests, like crop rotation and cover crops, or animal feed made of organic materials.

Additionally, the farmer must adhere to guidelines concerning the amount of fertilizer and pesticide that he uses during the growing seasons and how he rotates his fields among various crops. GMOs, synthetic insecicides, artificial growth hormones or synthetic fertilizers can't be used by farmers.

Fruits and vegetables labelled "100% organic" meet all the requirements above. But not all farms will label their products 100% organic. That would confuse consumers. Instead, they will label the product as "made from organic ingredients". "

What are the top organic products?

Today organic food is the fastest-growing sector. But even though we've come a long way from our roots, there is still much room for growth.

Organic products are the future. Organic products are safer and better for the environment. They also make it more affordable for consumers.

But they tend to be more expensive. This is why we created the Organic Food Index. We wanted to see which foods are most in demand today and how these trends are changing.

These findings show that organic foods are becoming more popular. The number of Americans shopping for organic food grew by nearly 50% between 2011 and 2012.

The USDA reported that organic production rose by 10% in the last year. Organic food now makes up 9% U.S. agriculture output.

Although organic food is gaining popularity, it appears that consumers still have to pay a premium for it. According to the Organic Trade Association, (OTA), organic food retail prices are nearly twice as expensive than conventional options.

The organic food sector is growing faster than other segments of the food supply. You'll notice that organic food consumption has increased steadily since 2009.

According to OTA's data, organic products sold in supermarkets grew at 14% between 2010 - 2011.

This is because of consumer demand for healthier products, which explains the rise in organic food sales across all age categories.

Younger generations are also leading the way in organic food choices. Millennials are twice as likely to buy organic food compared to baby boomers. Young adults below 35 years of age account for 25%.

Are organic foods better for us?

According to the Environmental Working Group, organic vegetables and fruits had half the amount of pesticides as non-organic. They discovered that organic apples contained eight more pesticides per gram than non-organic ones, while organic strawberries contained four times as many pesticides.

Another study suggests that organic food can reduce exposure to toxic metals such as lead and mercury. For example, one study showed that children who ate organic meat had 33 percent lower blood lead levels than those who didn't consume organic meats. Another study concluded traditional fish should not be consumed by pregnant women, due to high mercury levels.

Overall, organic food does seem to be safer than its non-organic counterpart. However, to reduce your risk of cancer and other diseases, experts recommend choosing fresh fruit and vegetables whenever possible.

What are organic beauty products?

Organic Beauty Products are natural products that do not contain any synthetic chemicals, including parabens. Phenoxyethanol, phthalates and artificial preservatives. These ingredients are commonly found in conventional beauty products like cosmetics, shampoos, and perfumes.

Organic beauty products are not tested on animals and contain no genetically modified organisms.

The USDA defines organic as "a system that fosters the cycling of resources." It has been used for many decades to describe food products grown without pesticides.

Because of the damaging effects of chemical substances on our health, there has been an increase in demand for eco friendly beauty products.

These include cancer, allergies and skin irritation.

Organic beauty businesses are committed to providing safe, healthy products that consumers can use while protecting the environment.

Why is organic food important?

Our health is dependent on organic produce. It's the best way to ensure we eat nutritious foods. It is healthier for us than any pesticides or fertilizers and it is also more eco-friendly.

Organic farming uses natural methods of cultivating crops that are free from harmful chemicals. This makes organic farming safer for both humans and animals. So when you choose organic food, you're helping to protect yourself and the planet.

Organic food has many benefits that go beyond health. We all know how toxic processed food can make you feel. However, organic fruits & vegetables aren’t treated with chemical sprays. It means that organic fruits, vegetables and other foods are fresher tasting, more vibrant and last longer.

That's why eating organic matters so much. Organic is healthy for your health and for the environment.
